TV & Set-Top-Boxes
SmarDTV has developed a range of products to enable premium payTV content on integrated digital television sets (iDTVs) and other media devices sold in the horizontal, open market (DVD recorder, set top box, ...)
As long as these devices feature a Common Interface (CI) into which a conditional access module (CAM) can be inserted, the use of a separate decoder is superfluous. Once the module is inserted in iDTV (or STB with DVB-CI slot), you experience the pay TV channels in the same manner as the free to air ones with minimum impact on the power consumption.
The advantages for consumers are clear:
* Design: No additional box under the TV set and no additional cables
* User experience: No additional remote control
* Green: Low power consumption
SmarDTV has built two main product lines to address the world wide market of module for Digital TV
* CI Conditional access module: compliant with DVB-CI and CI Plus specification SmarDTV CI CAM work with each major CA vendor, including Conax, Irdeto, NAGRA and Viaccess.
* CableCard: compliant with the OpenCable specifications, SmarDTV CableCards are used by major operators in the USA and in Korea.

SmarDTV benefits from 10 years experience in removable security modules (CICAM and CableCARD) to create a reliable and highly secure CI Plus CAM with the following key improvements to current DVB-CI CAM:
* SmarDTV "secure silicon" chipset to meet the latest security requirements of the major Conditional Access system providers
* Content protection: encryption of the video stream between the CAM module and the host device
* User interface: CI Plus CAM module supports DVB-CI Man User Interface (MMI), and graphics user interface with CI Plus browser
* IP Return channel : the CI Plus CAM module can access to the IP connection of the CI Plus host
Additional information on CI Plus are available on the CI Plus web site: www.ci-plus.com
For a PayTV operator CI Plus offer the possibility to bring similar features on set top box:
* Securely receive High Definition content
* Operator branded user interface (EPG banner, menu, content promotion and purchasing)
* On-line services like Video On demand, widget, Over The Top (OTP) services, betting
SmarDTV is partnering with the leading supplier of interactive solution to be able to provide a range of application. All CAM features are available through a high level Application Programming Interface (API). Using the SmarDTV development kit the application provider are able to develop the most adequate solution to the operators
The Conditional access module is closely linked to the Consumer Electronic devices. The operator can take benefits of this cooperation to enlarge the marketing campaign and the distribution channel of their services. SmarDTV has demonstrated the capability of enabling a successful horizontal market for a conditional module
Host devices now support terrestrial, cable and satellite reception, the CAM can be used on all current pay TV networks. The increase of connected TV market share offer to the CAM module new perspective for Over The Top (OTP) services or IPTV.
SmarDTV has successfully launched CI Plus products in several markets (France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweeden, Switzerland, ...) compatible with all CI Plus host available on these markets. SmarDTV put a lot of attention to always ensure that its modules are compatible with CI Plus host. To achieve this SmarDTV has developed a partner program for host providers to validate the compatibility and interoperability of their products with all our modules. More information on this partner program is available in the Partners section.
CableCARD Modules

SmarDTV is the leading provider of the CableCARD™ for Korea and USA market with NAGRA and NDS conditional Access system.
SmarDTV CableCARD is fully compliant with the OpenCable™ Specifications developed by CableLabs® in the USA (and adopted by TTA in South Korea).
The OpenCable specifications include both hardware and software specifications. The hardware specifications describe a baseline host device configuration for accessing interactive services and are interoperable with cable systems throughout the U.S., thus creating a retail solution for consumer electronics products for cable. The software specifications, coupled with the hardware specifications, solve the problem of proprietary operating system software, thereby creating a common platform for interactive television applications and services.
There are currently two modes of operation in which the Host and the Card can operate. The Single-Stream CableCARD device (S-CARD) is the first generation security module that can only operate in the Single-Stream Mode (S-Mode), and the Multi-Stream CableCARD device (M-CARD), a second-generation variant, is capable of operation in Multi-Stream Mode (M-Mode), or in Single-Stream Mode (S-Mode), based on the Host and its available functionality.
In addition to MPEG streams, the CableCARD is able to manage out-of-band communications, as well as command and control signals. The return path may use legacy OOB FDC (Forward Data Channel) and RDC (Return Data Channel) or DOCSIS®.
SmarDTV has been successfully qualified and certified by CableLabs and TTA.
CableCARD™ and OpenCable™ are trademarks of Cable Television Laboratories, Inc.
